For patients whose dry eye is associated with inflammation, ocular rosacea or abnormal blood vessels around the eyelids, Dr. Johnson may also recommend Lumecca-I IPL.

This treatment delivers carefully controlled pulses of light to the skin surrounding the eyes. IPL targets abnormal superficial blood vessels that contribute to inflammation and can help reduce inflammatory activity along the eyelid margins.

IPL may also help reduce bacteria and Demodex MITES associated with blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction. The treatment may help:

• Reduce inflammation associated with dry eye

• Improve symptoms of ocular rosacea

• Reduce abnormal superficial blood vessels

• Improve meibomian gland function

An additional cosmetic benefit may be improvement in facial redness and areas of uneven pigmentation.

RF and IPL Combination Treatment

Some patients primarily have blocked meibomian glands. Others have significant inflammation or ocular rosacea. Many have a combination of both.

Dr, Johnson may recommend Forma-I RF alone, Lumecca-I IPL, or a combination of the two, depending on your examination and the underlying causes of your dry eye. When used together, RF and IPL allow us to address both MGD and inflammation as part of a comprehensive dry-eye treatment plan.
