Get Comfortable and Clear Vision with Contact Lenses

Dr. Johnson has a special interest in prescribing contact lenses and keeps diagnostic fitting sets from simple daily wear disposable lenses to the more difficult fitting of keratoconus and scleral lenses.

We offer a wide range of contact lenses, including daily and weekly disposables, specialty contacts for astigmatism, gas permeable lenses, tinted and colored contacts as well as bifocal contacts.

It Starts with a Thorough Eye Examination

Dr. Johnson will start by assessing your overall eye health and vision. This process includes discussing your health history followed by a series of standard eye tests. These evaluations will cover eye focusing, teaming, depth perception, color vision, peripheral vision, and pupil response to light. Additionally, the doctor will measure your eye's fluid pressure to screen for glaucoma, examine your retina and optic nerve, and test your vision with various lenses to determine if contact lenses could enhance your eyesight.

Next, Discussing Your Contact Lens Preferences

If contact lenses are deemed suitable for you, the conversation will shift to your preferences regarding them. For instance, are you looking to enhance or change your eye color? Would you opt for daily disposable lenses or overnight wear? Inquire about the advantages and disadvantages of each option to make an informed decision. If you’re over 40, your doctor will likely address age-related vision changes and how contact lenses can help manage these concerns.

Then, The Eye Doctor Will Measure Your Eye's Surface

To ensure proper fitting of contact lenses, precise measurements of your eyes are essential. Your doctor will utilize a keratometer to measure the curvature of your cornea, the eye's clear front surface. Following this, the size of your pupil will be assessed using a card or ruler displaying various pupil sizes, held next to your eye to find the best fit.

You May Also Need a Tear Film Evaluation

If you experience dry eyes, Dr. Johnson will conduct a tear film evaluation to gauge the amount of tear film present on your eye's surface. If your tear film is inadequate or you suffer from chronic dry eyes, contact lenses may not be suitable for you. However, some newer contact lenses are designed to deliver moisture to the eye's surface, making them more appropriate for individuals with dry eye issues.

It's Time for the Contact Lens Fitting

The concluding step involves fitting you with a trial pair of contact lenses. After insertion, Dr. Johnson will inspect the lenses in your eyes to ensure they fit correctly. They will check the alignment and movement of the lenses on your eye's surface, and if everything looks good, the final step will be to verify the prescription accuracy with a few additional tests.
